Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods

Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

Seiho, a wonderfully rounded happy appearing person, makes me smile! She cocks her head at a bit of an angle as if sizing me up. I am, sadly, shaped much like she is. Perhaps she wonders if we are related somehow! Her wooden ball of a body has sensational personality. There are smooth parts, a rough, almost open area and lots of natural colors to examine. It seems she is wearing a fancy necklace or scarf, partly natural and partly painted. Lisa and Jacob, the fabulous artists who made Seiho, work in concert. Often I’m uncertain what is part of the wood’s design and what’s been enhanced with paint. I do adore the slick surface! Awfully fun to hold in your hands!
