Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods

Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

Maho looks like he climbed out of an active volcano! His body is made of Manzanita and Cocabolo woods. Holding him is a sensory experience with all of his grooves and fascinating textures! He has the Hodsdons’ usual terrific face and a beautiful wooden ornament on his head. I was hoping he would one day grace my Kokeshi doll collection, and so he has! Thank you for such a wonderfully weird guy!
