Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods
Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

What I most admire about my new Kokeshi doll made by the very talented artists at NaomiGallery is the beauty of her body. Part of the wood is presented the way nature made it, grains, lines, and colors true to its origin. The remainder of the surface is painted with leaves, vines, earthy hues. The combination is quite impressive. I appreciate Mina‘s braids and dear face, too. Another masterpiece by Lisa and Jacob, my new favorite artists!
