Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods

Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

Taka is a mere stick of a boy with fascinating features! His wood body has two intriguing indentations. He has a painted black vine running up the length of him in front with gold curly growth. Taka’s eyes are my favorite kind...fully open with dots of white reflecting light! The sides of his face are swiped with a golden orange highlights. The hat is a thinner disc of elegant wood showing lines and swirls of the natural wood grains. He seems quite happy on my shelf near much larger Kokeshi brothers and sisters. I think I’ll keep him! 😉
