Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods
Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

Blackwood Tana is a lovely Japanese style Kokeshi created by the talented artists at NaomiGallery! Her hair piece looks like an inlay of Mother-of-pearl. Sometime, if you havenât seen the Hodsdonâs Instagram postings, check out the evolution of their magnificent Kokeshis! They change and change and change! With imaginative people taking artistic risks and liberties, we fans are the fortunate benefactors of these years of experience. Tana would not have looked the same five years ago. It isnât about the Hodsdon couple improving on their creations, in my opinion. Itâs more about their fascinating abilities to keep creating new, unique dolls that never repeat themselves. Collectors have one-of-a-kind figures! Awesome, isnât it? And what will their dolls look like in another few years? Canât wait to see!
