Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods

Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

Uminaka, of Bocote Wood, is an understated darling! Her wood is a bit rare, coming from the Caribbean, Mexico or South America. It is known for its dark chocolate color and interesting streaks. The Hodsdons obviously know how to create the MOST beautiful Kokeshi dolls from the woods they select. It’s tiny, but notice the hair piece! Really unique and perfectly suited! Uminaka’s body has exceptionally beautiful swirls within her wood, too!
