Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods
Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

Masaio is a splendid piece of Elm Burl. She has two very special birthmarks of distinction. One is a bit of an open area under her chin with unique little peaks to touch. The second is a thumb print size indentation on the bottom of the left side. The overall coloration of the wood is a rich reddish brown. Lisa painted gold foliage, which really adds to this treasure’s beauty.. A reddish metallic color is blended along Masaio’s hairline. The little hair knot on top has a few white polka dots, also found among the golden leaves and black branches on her body. I truly love every angle of this darker skinned beauty!
