Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods

Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

I fell for Moony the minute I saw her big wide eyes, eyebrows that subtly frame them, and her marvelously richly painted costuming! What a fantastic lady! She’s a big girl, too, my very favorite kind! ( That’s not exactly true…I love chunky, tiny and all Hodsdon’s Kokeshi ladies!). The background is a rich metallic gold. There are wispy clouds of coppery orange. The huge crescent moon seems to be rising with its presence dominating the scene. I love the black, shadowy branches painted all over . There are classy grooves in rich brown at her base! Made of Ash wood, there is a small section toward that grooved base left natural. Sometimes I refer to her as “Moody” instead of “Moony” because of the wonderful mystique of that early evening transition from sunset to dusk to dark. My new lady is a fascinating treasure!
