Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods

Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

Tabiko is a tall, solid girl with jet black long hair and sweet facial expression. I like holding her! She is not the delicate type, so I am not intimidated exploring her wooden wonders with my hands. These dolls are solidly designed and shaped to last. Her long hair covers a large percent of her body and it’s flared a bit at the ends. There are painted, etched, and possibly carved details on her costume. Lisa and Jacob are both such talents, their designs are often subtle and do not need to abuse the senses. After all, their work begins with nature’s own beauty. Their “job” is to enhance it.
