Hodsdon Kokeshi Dolls, from tree to finished doll.
We entered this path with wanting to work together, share in the Japanese heritage and share our story.
We believe that There is a need and always room for traditional folk art in today's modern times, it creates a more inspired , vibrant and engaged society.
For us there are so many efforts to sustain and support wood art and Kokeshi tradition and culture.
Our approach is simply to work with our hands and the raw materials to create a little Kokeshi personality with beautiful woods

Kokeshi are believed to bring prosperity, peace and a sense of safety to the houses that they occupy

This beautiful, detailed work of art has a quiet joyfulness about it. Jacob gave "Blue Sakura" a substantial, squat body, which contributes to her jovial appearance. She's heavy, yet she seems to levitate. Her elaborately braided hair, replete with a hair pin, is a nice detail. Lisa painted a floral kimono and a wry smile on Blue Sakura. With her head cocked to the side and with a twinkle in her eyes, it's as if the doll is amused by a secret that she's not sharing. Lisa imbued this piece of wood with personality, and it has the ability to coax emotion out of humans! I will treasure this kokeshi.
